PolyFit

PolyFit is a student-run organization whose members are passionate about health care. PolyFit provides both students and community members with assessments to measure personal health and strength. Our main purpose at PolyFit is to encourage healthy lifestyles and personal health awareness. As students interested in health care, we aim to promote healthy lifestyle choices and to increase self-awareness of the risks for cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other detrimental chronic diseases associated with sedentary lifestyles. Our student staff is specially trained to deliver these tests in a confidential manner.

Basic Health Assessment Package - Free

Resting Heart Rate: This is a measure of how many times your heart beats per minute while at rest.  This can be an indicator of fitness as your resting heart rate will decrease as your heart becomes stronger with aerobic exercise training.

Blood Pressure: This is a measure of the force of blood pushing against the walls of your arteries as your heart pumps blood.  This is important because elevated or high blood pressure can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Height/Weight (BMI): This is an indicator of how healthy your body weight is for your height.  A higher BMI is associated with an increased risk for disease.

Skinfold: This test measures the thickness of your subcutaneous fat, which is the fat right under your skin.  Measurements from three different sites can be used to estimate total body fat percentage.

Waist to Hip Ratio: This test measures your patterns of fat distribution and can be used to estimate your risk for cardiovascular disease later in life.

BIA Scale: This test gives measures of your total body fat percentage and distribution, muscle mass and distribution, as well as total body water.

ALL Body Comp elements, PLUS fitness tests:

Sit Ups and Push Ups: These tests determine your muscular endurance, which is the ability of your muscles to contract repeatedly over time. This is important in maintaining healthy functioning and preventing injury during exercise and physical activities.

Grip Strength: This test uses a handheld dynamometer to measure the highest amount of force you can produce in each hand. It is a good estimate of your muscular strength, which is important for building muscle, maintaining healthy functioning, and preventing injury.

Sit and Reach: This test determines your flexibility, which is essential in maintaining a normal range of motion during exercise and activities of daily living. Having a healthy range of motion helps to promote efficient movement and prevents injuries.

YMCA Bike Test

YMCA Bike Test: Heart rate is tested tested during exercise to determine how well the heart and lungs provide energy to the working muscles.  This is a good indicator of your overall health and fitness, especially your heart and lungs.

Blood Work

Blood Glucose/Cholesterol: These tests give a picture of your risk for diabetes and heart disease by looking at the levels of sugars and fats in your blood. They can be performed for a small fee ($2 for glucose, $13 for cholesterol), which is just enough to cover the cost of materials!
